Student Information
Year 7
In Year 7, the most important step is to settle into school life and start discovering which subjects you enjoy. As you learn, pay attention to any careers mentioned in your classes and make a note of those that interest you. This will help you begin to think about your future options and guide your choices in later years.
Year 8
In Year 8, our focus is on exploring the wide range of careers you could pursue in the future. We look at jobs that are in demand both in the North East and beyond. It’s important to read about and explore any careers or industries that interest you, especially those linked to subjects you might want to choose in Year 9. Taking the time to investigate your interests now will help you make informed decisions about your next steps.
Year 9
Year 9 is a key stage in your careers journey, as you make important option choices that will shape your studies moving forward. You’ll narrow down your subjects for the start of Key Stage 4, so it’s important to choose carefully. Information about your options is available on the school website throughout the year.
Choose subjects you enjoy, but remember that your decisions can influence your future pathways after Year 11. Take time to consider your choices, and don’t hesitate to speak with teachers and your family for advice. Personal guidance sessions are also available to support you in making informed decisions.
Year 10
Year 10 is a pivotal year for your career journey, marked by three major events:
Mock Interviews:
You’ll have the opportunity to practice your interview skills. Don’t be nervous—try rehearsing with family or friends to build your confidence.College and Sixth Form Visits:
In June and July, you’ll visit at least three post-16 institutions. Focus on the courses and how they align with your future goals, rather than just the facilities or trips on offer.Work Experience:
You’ll spend a full week in a workplace. Choose your placement carefully—whether you arrange it yourself or select from the school’s options, prioritise your future ambitions over convenience or where your friends are going.
These experiences are designed to help you make informed decisions about your next steps and set you on the path toward your aspirations.
Year 11
Year 11 is a crucial time for making decisions about your post-16 pathway. Throughout the year, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from all local further education providers, helping you explore your options. Ultimately, your choice should be guided by your interests, strengths, and future ambitions—think carefully about what you want to do after leaving school.
You’ll also spend time preparing your CV, writing a covering letter, and applying to colleges. Remember, you’re not alone in this process—staff are always available to offer guidance and answer any questions you may have.
Personal Guidance
From September 2025 personal guidance sessions will be rolled on for students within key stage 4. Eventually they will occur within year 9 and 10 exclusively.
